June 18 DAILY GOSPEL

Tuesday of the Eleventh week in Ordinary Time Second Letter to the Corinthians 8:1-9. We want you to know, brothers and sisters, of the grace of God that has been given to the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, the abundance of their joy and their profound poverty overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For according to their means, I can testify, and beyond their means, spontaneously, they begged us insistently for the favor of taking part in the service to the holy ones, and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us through the will of God, so that we urged Titus that, as he had already begun, he should also complete for you this gracious act also. Now as you excel in every respect, in faith, discourse, knowledge, all earnestness, and in the love we have for you, may you excel in this gracious act also. I say this not by way of command, but to test the genuineness of your love by your concern for others. For you know the gracious act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that for your sake he became poor although he was rich, so that by his poverty you might become rich. Psalms 146(145):2.5-6.7.8-9a. Praise the LORD, my soul! I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live. Blessed he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD, his God, Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them. Who keeps faith forever, secures justice for the oppressed, gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets captives free. The LORD gives sight to the blind. The LORD raises up those who were bowed down; the LORD loves the just. The LORD protects strangers. Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5:43-48. Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect. Commentary of the day : Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus Love of one's enemy http://dailygospel.org/main.php?language=AM&module=readings&localdate=20130618

To watch all the news click here: http://www.gloria.tv/?user=6084 UK According to The Telegraph, Catholic Bishops in Britain could face legal action under human rights laws for refusing to carry out gay weddings despite Government assurances it would not prosecute, a committee of MPs and peers has warned. The Government’s same-sex marriage bill includes legal protections to ensure that no priest or church will be “compelled” to carry out gay marriages. But Maria Miller, the equalities minister, told Parliament’s Joint Committee on Human Rights that her advice was that churches would not count as performing a “public function” by opting out of conducting same-sex weddings. Internet Fr. John Zuhlsdorf has commented on the gay lobby statement of Pope Francis – quote: “This has been so obvious to me for so long that it isn’t news.” Father has spent many years in Rome. He confesses: “I suffered at the hands of these types for decades both in my home diocese and in Rome. And to be clear, they weren’t always liberals. Most were liberals and dissenters, but a few here and there were solidly on the traditionalist side which makes them even more loathsome.” He continues: “Most of them were dissidents and liberals and were well networked and they were vicious to anyone who was conservative.” Vatican For yesterday’s press bulletin from the Vatican that was sent to 400 journalists and published on the Internet, Benedict XVI was still listed as the reigning pope. The bulletin contained the following text: “Tonight at 19,30 the Holy Father Benedict XVI will be going to the Aula Paolo VI in the Vatican where he will inaugurate the Ecclesiastical Convention which concludes the pastoral year of the diocese of Rome.” But then the text added: “The Holy Father Francis will hold a catechesis with the title: I am not ashamed of the Gospel.” Gloria.tv adds, somebody forgot to flip the tortilla. Egypt On Sunday a Cairo court sentenced a famous Muslim preacher, Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud known as Abu Islam, to 11 years in jail for blasphemy. Abu Islam was prosecuted for burning a Bible during a protest last year outside the U.S. Embassy. Ahmed claimed that he burned the bible to protest the U.S.-made anti-Islam video posted on the Internet. He runs his own religious television channel and led a demonstration in September.

Human Life Must Be Respected CCC 2270

Catechism of the Catholic Church 2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.
We Must Also Face the Fact CCC 2727

Catechism of the Catholic Church 2727 We must also face the fact that certain attitudes deriving from the mentality of "this present world" can penetrate our lives if we are not vigilant. For example, some would have it that only that is true which can be verified by reason and science; yet prayer is a mystery that overflows both our conscious and unconscious lives. Others overly prize production and profit; thus prayer, being unproductive, is useless. Still others exalt sensuality and comfort as the criteria of the true, the good, and the beautiful; whereas prayer, the "love of beauty" (philokalia), is caught up in the glory of the living and true God. Finally, some see prayer as a flight from the world in reaction against activism; but in fact, Christian prayer is neither an escape from reality nor a divorce from life.
