Fatwa Against Catholic Minister

Pakistan

Islamic extremists have issued a fatwa against Shabhaz Bhatti, a Catholic who serves as Pakistan’s minister for religious minorities. Bhatti is leading a commission that will consider changes to the nation’s blasphemy law. “My life mission is to protect religious freedom, minority rights, justice and equality,” Bhatti told the Fides news agency. The Minister says about himself: “I am deeply religious, and the Pope’s words are very important in my life”.

Powered by Solar Energy

Vatican

The hall in which Pope Benedict frequently offers his weekly audiences is now powered by solar energy. This Cardinal Giovanni Lajolo, president of the Governatorate of Vatican City State, announced at a recent press conference. Two German companies donated $1.6 million for the purchase and installation of 2,400 photovoltaic panels. Papal audiences are held in the Paul VI auditorium when the weather weighs against an outdoor audience in St. Peter's Square.

Future Still Unclear

Switzerland

Msgr. Bernard Fellay wrote recently a letter to friends and benefactors. In the letter he also speaks about the relations of his Fraternity with Rome: Seeing what is going on in the Church, even if here and there appear gleams of hope, we must admit that, over all, the ship is pursuing the course begun at Vatican II – course a little slower, certainly, with Benedict XVI, but now hardly more than a free-fall broken by a parachute – the bishop states: “The events of these past years show a certain movement towards a return, up until now still very slight, but quite real all the same.” According to him the Society of St. Pius X can offer an important contribution. But it is still quite difficult to predict anything more concrete in its relations with Rome.

Media Billionaire Wants Lesser Children

Mexico

Sunday, Media billionaire Ted Turner called to institute an international one-child policy akin to that being enforced in China. He said that under this scheme the world’s poor could sell their fertility rights and thereby profit from avoiding procreation. Radical solutions are needed, Turner said, because of the environmental crisis facing the planet. “If we’re going to be here 5,000 years from now, we’re not going to do it with seven billion people,” he explained

I was intrigued at the link to the "ReligiousFreaks" website whose mission "grew out of my growing disdain for religion and the hatred and ignorance it breeds". A scan of the photograph featuring Muslims holding anti-Catholic placards indicates that the photograph was taken by the side of the Westminster RC Cathedral in London during a protest against the Regensburg lecture. A scroll down the home page of the "ReligiousFreaks" website reveals an article entitled "Mary: Holy Mother of God" displaying an amply proportioned bare breasted "Virgin Mary". This lamentable website's philosophy is well summed up by its own motto, "Have faith in yourself".
