Hi Fr Reto,
It's been over 17 years since we were at the Convitto S Tommaso in Rome together. You were always very kind to me & I have always remembered you. If you're ever in California let me know. God bless you in your work for souls.

@ St. Victor - Ah....indeed that man! I thought that is what he was getting at; next time, Fr Nay just might articulate this clearly. This is really deep mystology here..... good for the busy, noisy and mordern man to take heed of... ๐Ÿ™‚

I think what is meant is that denying ourselves we must always and under any circumstances. This is exactly the self-knowledge the Desort Fathers spoke about. I do not think Don Reto leaves to the listeners a second option.

Rather good discourse! ๐Ÿ‘ However, Father does not give direction in the area of the practicum , i.e. HOW does one acknowledge ones weakness, simulteneously dening them. Maybe, one can say that it is a product of the deep self-knowledge of which the Desert Fathers speak. Hummm....... just a thought. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you Father Reto Nay! I felt as if you were talking about me! Thank you Father Reto Nay! I felt as if you were talking about me! I was raised Lutheran, I went to Chruch and all that, but somehow I felt an emptiness in me that I couldn't understand - until this year: I realized, the answer is the Catholic Church and the its teaching! And so now I'm on the way to become a real Catholic. I have never been so happy as I am now. I finally have the feeling, deep down in me, that I have found Christ, and I know what to do, in order to follow him to the end. I have never been this peaceful before Christmas, because everything used to turn around the material things, and I felt Christmas wasn't 'right' unless I had done this and that and bought this and that. And when Christmas came, I was dead tired! Now I am so sick, that I can't make any Christmas preparations, but now it does not matter, because my Christmas is in my heart. All we need, is to bow our heads in front of Christ, and we have peace. I know a song where it says:" I seek the Giver, not the Gift." Peaceful and blessed Christmas time to everyone. Just remember the little Child in the manger, don't leave HIM out in the cold, while you are celebrating HIS birth inside in the warmth! ๐Ÿค—

Every Christian is called to martyrdom; all to white martyrdom (self), and some even to red martyrdom (life). When a priest makes the full Sign of the Cross, I know the Holy Mass will be celebrated with fear and reverence. If the opportunity arises in London, I attend a Holy Mass with Fr Francis Selman and the oldest altar boy in Christendom! This priest celebrates the Holy Mass with all his heart โ€ฆMore

I just will follow Christ.
I am very pleased to hear you say that, kind Father. I am very pleased to hear you say that, kind Father. I can't begin to count the number of times 'educated' Catholics (including clerics) will talk about the Church, about the Pope, about ecumenism, about love of neighbor, about all kinds of things in their sermons and in their conversation but either totally neglect or only mention Jesus the Christ in passing. Giving these simple souls the benefit of the doubt, I suppose that they falsely believe that the Church and all these other things equals Christ. That, obviously, is untrue and is an indication of individuals who are commonly refereed to as โ€œneo-Catholics.โ€

No matter what the novelty, no matter what outragrous behavior takes place, eg. the recent half-dressed acrobats in the Vatican, you name it, the neo-Catholics will defend it. The only way these kinds of outrageous things can and do occur in our Church is if Catholics (including clerics) ignore the prime directive and that is to simply follow Christ in all things.

St. Faustina set a fine example and her focus was clear:
โ€œJesus, I Trust In You.โ€
