Pope once again appeals for South Ossetia during the Angelus.

"I appeal for the opening, without delay, of humanitarian corridors between the region of South Ossetia and the rest of Georgia."
Benedict XVI once again appealed for an end to the dramatic Russian-Georgian crisis. During the Angelus, the Pope expressed his hope that "the present cease-fire might be consolidated and be transformed into a stable peace".

Commenting on the Gospel page that narrates the episode of the Canaanite woman, the Holy Father referred to the modern forms of "racism, intolerance and exclusion", "often linked to social and economic problems".

"Let us pray – the Pontiff said – that respect for every person will grow everywhere, together with the responsible awareness that only by the reciprocal acceptance of all is it possible to build a world marked by real justice and true peace."

Then, a prayer for the victims of road accidents caused by excessive speed and imprudent conduct: "Human life is too precious – Benedict XVI said – and it is too unworthy of man to meet death or become an invalid due to causes that could mostly be avoided".

Finally, a prayer for Bishop Wilhelm Emil Egger of Bolzano-Bressanone, victim of a heart attack. The Pope received with profound sorrow the news of the unexpected death and assured his personal prayer for Bishop Egger who with great courtesy and tact received Benedict XVI during his recent visit to the diocese.
