Richards Reliquien kamen um 1154 nach Eichstätt.
Nach der erstmals 1155/56 geschriebenen Lebensgeschichte war Richard angelsächsischer König, Mann der Wunna und Vater von Walburga, Willibald und Wunibald. Er unternahm mit den Söhnen 720 eine Pilgerfahrt nach Rom. Die Legende erzählt von der Begegnung mit einem kranken Mann, der von Richard geheilt wurde. Richard starb noch auf dem Hinweg in Lucca und wurde dort in der Kirche S. Frediano beigesetzt.
