Summorum Pontificum is an issued Motu Proprio.....Benedict's Apostolic Letter issued Motu Propio (i.e. on his own initiative). Hi Rope! Summorum Pontificum is not a Motu Proprio intended to "restore" the 1962 Liturgy (as you imply). It is rather, a Motu Proprio intended to prevent the local Ordinary from arresting the usage of this unus antiquior. In addition to which, this Motu Proprio gives the faithful more freedom to have this beautiful ancient liturgy more frequently at their disposal.
