The celebration of the public exchange of ecclesiastical communion with the new Lebanese Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai took place in St. Peter's Basilica. Cardinal Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches, in his homily stressed the important role of the community and its Maronite Patriarch for the whole of Lebanon and for the Church in the Middle East. The Maronite Church, the Patriarch noted, is committed in joint discussions to formulate a plan of action after the Synod on the Middle East and to work in synergy and harmony with the authorities and with other Christian communities.
