Vatican

Cardinal Raymond Burke has commented on the sixth anniversary of Benedict XVI’s election to the papacy on April 19. Burke runs the Church’s Supreme Court. Israel Imposes Travelling Restrictions

Holy Land

The number of pilgrims participating in Holy Week ceremonies in Jerusalem is down this year, as Israeli restrictions do not allow Palestinian Christians behind de wall to enter Jerusalem. Last Sunday, Archbishop Fouad Twai, the Latin-rite Patriarch of Jerusalem, led about 10,000 people in a traditional Palm Sunday procession from Bethpage into the Old City of Jerusalem. That number represented only half the usual participation. A Church spokesman explained that many Christians from nearby Bethlehem and Ramallah were unable to obtain permits from the Israeli Army in order to join in the procession.

The conference reported that in 2010, there were over 43,000 adult baptisms in the U.S. and more than 75,000 converts. Among the new Catholics of this year are: a Muslim, a family of seven, a marine or a former abortion clinic administrator.

Poor Technical Efforts in the Vatican

Internet

Fr John Zuhlsdorf has commented on the efforts of the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano to offer a possibility to read the Italian language daily paper online for 50 Euros a year. Father tried to subscribe but was kicked back to a previous page, with both Firefox and Chrome. Only Internet Explorer worked. Then he attempted to open the accessed PDF-file of the online-paper – but it didn’t work on any browser. Father’s guess: The PDF seems to be broken at the time of this writing. He comments: “I hope that with the subscription income, they will be able to afford a coffee machine in the editorial offices. They need to wake up.”
