Benedict XVI: the presence of Bartholomew I is a presence of Hope.

In the picturesque setting of the Sistine Chapel, under the view of the final Judgement, the Pope and Bishops participating in the Synod prayed Vespers Saturday afternoon with the participation of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

The Pope introduced the ceremony and at its conclusion greeted the Patriarch, thanking him for his presence. Bartholomew I gave a broad and intense reflection on the meaning of the Word of God and recalled the need for the shared commitment of believers in Christ on the path of justice, in the struggle against poverty, and in respect of the environment.
