US-Bishops Defend Marriage

USA

A Subcommittee of the US-Bishops’ Conference has released “Made for Life,” a video in defense of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. The subcommittee is led by Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland. He was a leading force behind the 2008 passage of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that recognized marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

Father Wurm Continues His Polemics

USA

Benedictine Father Robert Wurm who challenged Detroit Archbishop Allen Vigneron by celebrating Mass at the liberal American Catholic Council meeting in Detroit continued his attacks against the Catholic hierarchy in a conversation with the Detroit Free Press. Wurm called for radical changes in the Church, saying that different teachings would attract a more enthusiastic following. The Free Press story suggests that the opposite might be true, citing the example of a lay Catholic who was driven out of his parish by Father Wurm’s preaching.

Former Anglican Bishop Becomes Catholic Layman

Australia

Ross Davies , a former Anglican bishop who resigned under pressure has been received into the Catholic Church. Davies had been the Anglican bishop of Murray, Australia, until September 2010. He resigned before he was scheduled to face an ecclesiastical trial on a number of charges. The charges against him, raised by other Anglican prelates, included the complaint that he had expressed an interest in Catholicism, as well as complaints about his handling of a sex-abuse case. Davies told The Australian that he has found it “very relaxing” to be a Catholic layman. He said that he has no interest in seeking ordination to the Catholic priesthood.

The Western Mass Causes Outrage

United States

Father John Zuhlsdorf has embedded the Gloria.tv-report about the sacrilegious Vienna Western Mass in his famous blog. The video has produced 61 comments. The outrage is general. The user Anchorite writes for instance: “My concern, aside from the obvious abuse, is that it all happens with permission of Cardinal Schoenborn who often participates in similar “masses” himself. This is the man who is one of Benedict XVI’s students, one of the writers of the current Catechism of the Catholic Church, and one of the cardinals who supposedly got a vote in the last conclave. Really disturbing.”

ACL - Indeed, some "higher authorities" are problematic. The Church might as well scrapped the N.O. Mass for Christ's sake (no pun intended).

Blackchallice - Oh quite! I was greatly encouraged at the cancellation of the "western mass" in Austria (a most dreadful thing indeed!). So, yes! My faith in the heirarchy is somewhat restored - however, this was only after widespread outrage and an international petition signed! The "higher authority" might just be the problem.....
blackchallice
ACL - Then they should be reported to a higher authority. Do nothing and the whole 'dog's breakfast' saga never ends.
ACLumsden
Blackchallice- Indeed! However, there are still Bishops who just disobey and presbyters who do the same! So the whole 'dog's breakfast' needs cleaning up! 🤨

@ACL Maaaaate! Why wait when people can attend / demand the Old Mass, which (after much consideration) is uncompromising. As you've mentioned it "Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi".
ACLumsden
@blackchallice - Hey mate! 🤗 Well said! However, the Holy Father is slowly laying the groundwork for a solid quashing of all this nonsense... let's wait and see... 🧐

Deo gratias, the kumbayah Mess (with an E) is cancelled but this ain't the end of such Novus Ordo nonsense.

Ah, indeed. I like the statement " by carefully watching, not what they say, but what they do". The same administrative ethos of the Gladiatorial Games of antique pagan Rome can be seen: keep the people always entertained, tell them whatever they want hear, keep them happy, let them have whatever they want; meanwhile, Rome fell with a mighty, long death cry.

The Roman Church is not at all hearing her death knell, but I think the principle of "keep the people happy" in the midst of the hurly-burly is quite evident!

One can discern the "mind of the Vatican" by carefully watching, not what they say, but what they do. We have a recent example(less than 2 weeks ago) of a lack of Papal authrority in the following story. Again, could one possibly imagine Sts Peter or Paul acting in such a way? I can't but I am a nobody.

She would not say who she thought had issued this warning, but said the impression was given that if the cardinal speaks, “because he’s so close to the Pope it’ll look as if he’s speaking for the Pope and attacking the bishops – which is crazy”, she said.

One wonders why Cardinal Schoneburg continues to be untouched by the cauterizing hand of the Roman disciplinary dicastery..... 🤦

Being an ex-student of the Holy Father, is he deemed 'untouchable', or has the Holy Father reserved any action unto himself? Or maybe, the Holy Father is giving Cardinal Schoneburg 'rope to hang himself'..... rather like St Gregory the Great's Vita Benedicte wherein, like our Lord, in some cases, St Benedict is said to allow the 'weeds to grow with the wheat' until the proper time for havest; the weeds are then 'heeped up and thrown onto the fire'. However, on the other hand, St Benedict is quick to 'apply the cauterizing iron' of excommunication (or the crack of the whip!) in other cases.

Has our Holy Roman Church grown soft in a time when She is required to be steely in defending Her Lex Credendi et Lex Orandi , in other words, the FAITH? 🤨 🥴

The “good Catholics” are afraid to ask the obvious question. Is it more disturbing to witness heterodox nuns, priests, bishops and cardinals or is it more disturbing to witness the refusal of a higher authority to do anything about it?

Personally, I think the sacrilege will take place as planned on June 26, 2011. But I would point out that this 'anything goes' priest and his bishop are not totally at fault here. Are there any Catholics attending? They too ought to know better. It is obvious that the vast majority of Austrian Catholics, including those living in Vienna, DO know better are embarrassed and outraged and will NOT be in attendance.

With the aid of other cooperating and like-minded Internet sites, what Gloria.tv has successfully done is to expose and marginalize the offenders to the entire world. It will take time but more and more strong Catholics will begin to realize who or what it is that these "anything goes" types actually represent. It is the laity who will affect the necessary changes not Rome.
