The comatose patient Eluana Englaro has been killed in a private clinic. Ms Englaro was for weeks at the center of a euthanasia-battle. Italy’s health minister announced the death of the woman to senators holding an emergency session to debate a bill aimed at keeping her on a feeding tube. Some senators shouted “Assassins!” A neurologist who followed Ms. Englaros case for years, said she had died suddenly of “unexpected” causes. Since last Tuesday she had been refused food and even water. Ms. Englaro has been in a persistent vegetative state since a car accident in 1992.
