After a rabbi in charge of religious matters at Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall said that the Pope should not wear his pectoral cross during his visit there in May, the Israeli ambassador to the Holy See issued a statement in which he declared that the Israeli host will respect the religious symbols of the Holy Father and of his entourage, as expected in accordance with rules of hospitality and dignity.”
