Canon lawyer Edward Peters suggests now that Church leaders should accept the challenge, and take disciplinary action against McElvaine for violating Canon 1369, which prescribes a "just penalty" for anyone who " expresses insults, or excites hatred or contempt against religion or the Church."

The president of the Austrian section of ‘Human Life Internation’ Dietmar Fischer has submitted a few days ago to the Supreme Court of the Vatican suspicions of coercion and extortion in connection with the forced resignation of the dispensed bishop. The complaint is directed against the Linz cathedral chapter and the Diocesan Bishop Ludwig Schwarz, who according to Fischer’s complaint is under "suspicion of assisting" the allegations.
