Certamen Vaticanum: poetry in Latin

To reinforce the importance of the Latin language, the Certamen Vaticanum, an international contest of poetry and prose in Latin is organized every year by the Latinitas Foundation. Topics are chosen from classic themes as well as modern-day events.
This year there were 26 participants. At the award ceremony, held at the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome, two sacred stories were presented in Latin.
The mission of the Foundation is explained by its president, Don Cleto Pavanetto: 9 sec.
"We are trying to recover the true sense of the classical world, without losing track of what the classical world is. And young people appreciate this a lot. "

Dr. Oreste Carbonero, professor of Latin at the Classical High School of Alexandria, which won the gold medal of the Pontificate with the prose essay 'Requiescat in Pace', sees a future for Latin: 12 sec.
"I view it positively as long as there are teachers able to love and appreciate it, because everything depends on the efforts of the teacher."

Regarding other initiatives, the President stated:

The Foundation also publishes the magazine Latinitas and sponsors an Intensive Latin Course based on the so-called "natural method", that is the teaching of Latin only using the Latin language itself.

"We are trying to move ahead with a new lexicon of neologisms, with the collaboration of several professors - some of whom are here. We have made the discovery that many words used even now on the Internet were in Titus Livius."
