Cardinal Schönborn: his experience over many years is that “if a person with same-sex attraction discovers true, chaste friendship, this can be a real way out, a real way out of a situation that is very often a dramatic destruction of the person.”
“To live in promiscuity is really inhuman and destructive for the person.”

Here is the article on the controversy,
Austrian cardinal OKs gay man for parish council
And, here is the Cardinal in his own words, but again the question is not of charity but of Church teaching that a person who is engaging in an active mortal sin, and is public about it, and unrepentant should not be allowed to sit in good standing on a parish board or committee.

The problem is not that we shouldn't be charitable to people with same sex attractions- that is something we all agree on. The problem has been that Bishop Schönborn’s pastoral policy went so far as to allow an active gay man who was living with his gay partner, quite openly and publically, to remain on his parish board and in good standing as an active Catholic in that parish. (1 Jn 1, 8)
I do not disagree with any of you regarding sin, and the eternal damnation of a soul, but you are missing the point, or you misread the posting where we mentioned about the Cardinal giving advice on pastoral matters regarding the practice and not the teachings, or to put it in other words, the teachings put into actual practice. The worst battlefield is the one where you are surrounded by a lot of sin, sin in abundance. I see all kinds of people all the time, and I thank God some have come out of their sin and immorality, not because of preaching hell to them all the time which they already know, is not like they were born yesterday, or that they are little children. But because we are called to be a living Gospel, and witnesses of Jesus Christ.=, and we are called to confess him as our Lord.

Jesus gave two commandments in case we did not learn all ten of them, and in his two commandments tell me if you find anything that you are claiming, or tell me if you believe that Jesus is not the son of God, and that when he summarized all 10 commandments he made a mistake, or it was just his personal opinion; or better yet, why do we not talk to Him and tell him that he as the son of God and true God and shepherd and high priest of our Catholic Church made a mistake by not preaching all the time the eternal fires of hell to all sinners and pagans everywhere he went?

Jesus is the shepherd and he came for the sick and the ones in sin, he said that (Lk 5, 32; Mt 2, 17), he showed the priests how to be shepherds, and showed them to go for the missing sheep (Mt 18, 12-14)

Brothers, brothers, We were given two commandments by our Beloved Lord Jesus, do not be sons of thunder as Jesus rebuked his apostles (Lk 9, 54-56), the pharisees were so knowledgeable about the law and the doctrine and the religion, that even Paul says that he thought he (Paul) was doing good persecuting and killing Christians.

A pharisee and a publican were praying in the temple, said Jesus (Mt 18,10-11), now I say which one would you identify with? (Remember, only two commandments, meditate on it, and live them); bring life to death souls, bring hope and peace. Show them liberty through the love of Jesus, so that they stop sinning, tell them about the eternal fires of hell due to the sin, but with charity, so that you practice mercy and not judgment, and you shall receive mercy when your time comes (Mat 5, 7).

You are called to be the elight of the world (Mat 5, 14). Be a friend to them as Jesus has been a friend to all of us who are still sinners as long as we live in this mortal flesh . Do not talk about the Lord, but show them the Lord through your love for Him and them as you are the salt of the earth (Mt 5, 13) . I admire your courage to do what you do, but try to put a little more love in what you do and you'll see things through the eyes of our Lord Jesus.

Love you all in our Lord Jesus' heart and name, we are the champions of the Lord. God bless you.

I lived in Regensburg Germany for 2 years, the heart of Catholic Germany, and I miss the Catholic expressions of faith that permeate the South German culture, something I don’t see among American Catholics. In addition, in many ways the Germans are even more tolerant of people, on the personal level, living alternative lifestyles than Americans are. What upsets many German Catholics is that some Bishops in their overemphasis on being charitable to the person with same sex attractions are overlooking the sin of sodomy- and even a kind of de-facto acceptance of the behavior. Case in point Bishop Schonborn, recently allowed a practicing gay man to be on the man's local parish board. This was over the objections to the parish priest, who told the man that he would have to stop his gay behavior in order to be in good standing with the Church. Catholics have a personal relationship with Christ and insubstantiate this every time they receive Him in holy Eucharist, but if a Catholic is practicing homosexual behavior then their sin is mortal and blocks them from a personal relationship with Our Lord. A good pastor, would teach the person to see the reality of the sin for the good of their soul, but at the same time not rejecting them as a person, and that they need to remove that sin through confession in order to have the personal relationship with Christ.

Thanks to the user "Saint Benedict pray for us" who agrees on the the call to which all true Christians are invited to follow.

I feel compelled to make a comment. And I do hope you finish reading the last line if yo start reading this post, but first I will start with 3 verses of the Bible (1 Jn 4, 19-20; 1 Jn 4, 8 and v7; Mat 5, 44)

The Cardinal talks about the relationship that we must have with Jesus, a true relationship he says. Then he talks how there's been many discussions of same sex attraction and where this attraction comes from, and he says that one thing is certain,

"it's a great desire, a great need of friendship"

then he continues saying

"my experience is that if a person with same sex attraction discovers true friendship This can be a real way out of a situation that is very often a dramatic destruction of the person because all those young and elder who live in promiscuity it's really inhuman and it is destructive for the person. So there are some movements who force the discovery of true friendship to overcome a gay lifestyle that is finally, humanly, spiritually destructive "

I agree to all he says, and I'm making this post for that reason because I see "Catholics" not agreeing to what he says, they have their eye on sin, and the eternal fires of hell due to this grievous mortal sin, but they forget to consider the sinner.

Xome catholics have not separated the creature from the act. God loves his creatures and if he did not he would have never sent hs only son to die for sinners.

God gives all people the choice for salvation, but it is a choice, he is not going to force anyone to embrace it. The problem is that nowadays many catholics do not have a true relationship with Jesus although many feel they may have it, or in a sense consider themselves not to be as bad, or that they are already saints because of their pious practices, or because they go to mass often, and sacrifice (maybe) or at least they feel that they are not as bad.

Do you know who is the worst of all the worst? Do you think the Muslims who are beheading people, hanging Christians, and killing them, persecuting them are the worst? Do you think people who persecute the church whether they are from other creeds or atheists, are the worst?

People, people!!! the worst of all in humanity are those who have been baptized to come to know God and yet proclaim an entire different Gospel, a gospel of hatred, a gospel in which we should take Mary Magdalene outside the city and stone her to death because the law of Moses says so.

We have forgotten that we are not immaculate, we are forgetting that we are also sinners, and we are forgetting that no sin before God's eyes is bigger or smaller, so you have forgotten that God is love, and he who loves is in God and God in him.

Not long ago a lady brought a guy who was abut to have a sex change, he is a transvesti, but wanted to become a transsexual (have the operation to change his sex). She brought him two times only.

When he was brought to me I felt repulsion towards his sin, he even injected some hormones in his breast to make them grow, but nonetheless as St. Maria Faustina who felt repulsion towards the infected eyes of a baby, she kissed his eyes twice as an act of humility an love.

When he was brought to me, I put myself on his service, in what way you may think?, I let him know all the love that God has let me know, live and experience. I let him know how much God loved him and how God did not reject him, but rejected the sin in Him, because he was his creature, and his son.

And I said to him, "to love you God does not need you to change anything, he loves you just as you are, but he does need you to change to save you, but he will never abandon you. We are at war, and he is right by your side fighting for your soul every day the 24 hours, and calling you unceasingly, saying to you how much he loves you and he wants to give you the grace to be free."

This person accepted to see a priest. I took him to see a priest another day , a priest who is so loving with all people and so wise in giving them advice. When he talked to the priest this transvesti guy was so enthusiastic, and optimistic, he was full of joy and hope for a change, he wanted to change his entire life. He experienced God's love because god has a transforming power of love

Now let me give you a briefing on what he was doing, he was worshiping death, he even had skulls and an image of death, he had a boyfriend who was an older man, and they had sex, etc.

In short his mom, sister and him came and all three of them wanted to change their life because all of them were entirely sick in their family relationship and personal life.

But do you know what destroyed god's plan? I will tell you, the impatience of the lady who introduced them to me, her selfishness, her lack of love, her personal interests, I even remember her and my body trembles and my heart aches. And that's not all, she wanted to turn all responsibility against me, she pointed her finger towards me trying to make me feel guily and responsible for them, and I said to her "in this life there's people or souls who passed by and we are by no mens called to ignore them but to help them. But if we are selfish we can not justify our lack of charity towards our neighbor by pointing fingers at other people. These souls are your responsibility, if they lived close to me and if I had means to see them I would persevere with them, as I have done with you and others, but I can not; and it is not a christian attitude to leave our responsibilities to others just because we are lazy and too busy in our personal things that we do not have time to love others, not even our family."

I would say to all those who think they are Catholics, stop being pharisees we need to be a living Gospel, but first you need to be healed of your leprosy of selfishness and hatred. We are all called to confess that Jesus is the Lord, but how can we confess that if we do not live the kind of life he taught us. How can we confess a God who is love (1 Jn 4, 8) if we do not love

Do you think that Mary Magdalene did not hear Christ saying about those who will not enter heaven? Oh, of course she did, but she was with Christ all the time because she went to the living waters of eternal life which were Christ Jesus himself, so her thirst was quenched.

Her thirst not for lust, but for love. You will never be able to confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord and savior if you keep preening a gospel that brings no hope and no salvation to anyone, you are not saints, and you are not good, says Jesus himself.

May God have more mercy on us Catholics who were given the greatest gift yet have not been good servants to administer it. You have not yet understood the Gospel
