Prelate asked to leave Slovenia amid paternity rumors
A Slovenian prelate who resigned in 2009, citing reasons of health, has been asked by the Vatican to withdraw from public life because of persistent rumors that he has fathered two children, Vatican Insider reports.
Archbishop Alojz Uran of Ljubljana was less than 65 years old when he resigned after undergoing heart surgery.
Although his health problems were undoubtedly real, and the archbishop has denied being involved with sexual improprieties, reports of his alleged paternity have circulated freely in Slovenia.
Apparently hoping to ease the problem, the Vatican has asked him to leave the country, and take up residence in Trieste, Italy.
“This is a temporary measure to calm public opinion until the question is resolved,” said a spokesman for the Slovenian bishops, who emphasized that Archbishp Uran is not under any disciplinary sanction.
