The Diocese of Albany in upstate New York has sold the St. John the Baptist Church to the Schenectady Light Opera Company. The theater group, one of the oldest of its kind in the U.S., typically stages four to six musical theater shows from September to May.
The church founded in 1839 is one of 33 worship sites closed or merged by Bishop Howard Hubbard earlier this year.

Edward Green stated this in an address at the 30th annual Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples in Rimini, Italy. Green, an expert on AIDS prevention, said that "as a scientist he was amazed to see the closeness between what the Pope said last March in Cameroon and the results of the most recent scientific discoveries."
