Sydney's Cardinal George Pell may be appointed to a post in the Roman Curia by Pope Benedict, The Australian reports. The newspaper said "Catholic circles" here and in Rome "are abuzz with speculation" about the Vatican posting for Cardinal Pell. It said one possible opening would be the position of the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, which helps advise the Pope on the appointment of new bishops across the world. It is currently held by Cardinal Battista Re, who reaches retirement age this year.
Pope Congratulates Armenian Catholicos

Pope Benedict XVI has sent a congratulatory message to Howe, the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, who is celebrating his 10th anniversary in that post. The Pope's message salutes the Armenian patriarch for his work to rebuild the Church in Armenia after the fall of Communism. The Pontiff also notes Karekin's "personal commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and friendship" with the Catholic Church. The Armenian Apostolic Church has moved steadily closer to the Vatican in recent ecumenical affairs.
Grandmother Persecuted for Criticizing Gay Parade

The visit and threat of a "hate crime" charge by police to a 67 year-old U.K. pensioner and devout Christian grandmother, has garnered outrage from all corners of Britain. Mrs. Pauline Howe was told by two police officers who visited her home that she may have committed a "hate incident" simply for having written a letter to her local council complaining about the local Gay Pride parade. Recently Gloria.TV got hold of the minutes of a meeting of all deans in the Austrian diocese of Linz. The meeting took place in September 2009. According to the minutes the Apostolic Nuncio in Vienna received in August the perpetrators of a sacrilege during Corpus Christi ceremonies of this year. During the event, one dean, Father Helmut Part carried a consecrated pita bread with barbecue tongs. During the meeting with the Nuncio, Part denied any wrong-doing and said that there is only a small group of terribly Catholic people who would have complained about the scandal.
