Vatican
In an interview for Vatican Insider, Mgr. Ignacio Carrasco de Paula, President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, supported the decision of the German Bishops permitting the handing out of the morning after pill in Catholic hospitals to rape victims. For Mgr. de Paula this decision is “an example to follow”. Perhaps Mgr Carrasco does not remember that previously, in year 2000, the Pontifical Academy for Life made a negative statement concerning the so called “Morning-after-pill”. Quote: “the proven "anti-implantation" action of the morning-after pill is really nothing other than a chemically induced abortion. Consequently, from the ethical standpoint the same absolute unlawfulness of abortifacient procedures also applies to distributing, prescribing and taking the morning-after pill. All who directly co-operate with this procedure are also morally responsible.” Also in 2008 the then president of the pontifical academy for life Mgr Elio Sgreccia explicitly declared that the "morning-after pill" cannot be used even in cases of rape.

Msgr Carrasco’s mental lapse concerning the prohibiting of the morning-after-pill is just one of many controversial cases which officials of the Pontifical Academy for Life were involved in during 2012 and in previous years as well. One year ago, the Academy held a conference with speakers who openly spoke in favor of in vitro fertilization a practice expressly prohibited by the Catholic Church. At that time, the now President of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Cardinal Ravasi blasted the critics of this event as "opponents of dialogue" and fundamentalists. In 2009 the then President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Mgr Rino Fisichella defied Jose Cardoso Sobrinho, archbishop of Olinda and Recife in Brazil and the President of the Pontifical Academy for Life supported two Brazilian doctors who performed an abortion on a 9-year-old rape victim saying that those abortion doctors do not merit excommunication. Now Mgr Carrasco supports the killing of the babies by means of the morning after pill. Keeping in mind all these failures of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Gloria.Tv suggests that the Holy Father, before he resigns, should do one of the following: 1) establish for his dissenting prelates a Pontifical Academy for Dissenters or 2) rename The Pontifical Academy for Life into the Pontifical academy for death.

Spain

Moroccan children adopted by Spanish families must remain culturally and religiously Muslim. This is the result of an agreement made by the Spanish government and the Islamist government in Morocco. The agreement obliges the Spanish government to establish a "control mechanism" that would enable Moroccan religious authorities to monitor the adopted children until they reach the age of 18 to ensure they have not converted to Christianity. The requirement, which will be enshrined in Spain's legal code, represents an unprecedented encroachment of Islamic Sharia law within Spanish jurisprudence. The move also represents a frontal assault on the freedom of religion or belief, which is protected by Article 16 of the Spanish Constitution.

Father Zulsdorf recorded on his blog an interesting quote from Henri de Lubac that is an important point of reflection during this Year of Faith. Here is the quote: “If heretics no longer horrify us today, as they once did our forefathers, is it certain that it is because there is more charity in our hearts? Or would it not too often be, because the very substance of our faith, no longer interests us? Perhaps for us dogmas are no longer the Mystery on which we live, the Mystery which is to be accomplished in us. Consequently then, heresy no longer shocks us; at least, it no longer convulses us like something trying to tear the soul of our souls away from us…. And that is why we have no trouble in being kind to heretics, and no repugnance in rubbing shoulders with them… It is not always charity, alas, which has grown greater, or which has become more enlightened: it is often faith, the taste for the things of eternity, which has grown less…”

Good that there are bishops who still know the truth and also express it publicly. The German bishops’ allways are good for a negative surprise, what makes the real Catholics in Germany lonesome. Here the only help ist: flee forward, directly into the heart of God in the Divine Liturgy!
