Two Appointments

Today, pope Francis has transferred Wichita bishop Michael Jackels to the Metropolitan See of Dubuque. Also today, he named Msgr. John Folda the new Bishop of Fargo, North Dakota. According to Rorate Caeli, both come from the – quote - admirable factory of priests of Lincoln, Nebraska. Folda has been the rector of St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, Nebraska.

Double-Dealing That is Not Unlike Perjury

Detroit archbishop Allen Vigneron said Sunday that Catholics who receive Communion while advocating gay marriage would "logically bring shame for a double-dealing that is not unlike perjury."

A Return to the Past

For Fr Ray Blake, the return of pope Francis to the Lello Scorzelli's Ferula is a – quote - return to the past. Father writes: „It symbolises to the uncertainty of the post-concillior Church, stripped bare, in flux, not fully formed, a broken human institution, humbled, gasping in a particular moment of history, more dead than alive. It is austere without any beauty. It is the Church of Good Friday, devoid of any sense of Grace, or of Easter hope.“ Father unterstands why Benedict XVI rejected it – quote: „It fitted uneasily with his theology of "Joy" and "Man-Redeemed", the traditional Papal Ferula, gilt empty victorious cross of the now risen Christ, spoke eloquently of his own theology.“

Why Some Are Unsure about the New Pontificate

The German blog katholisches.info has tried to explain a certain uneasiness with the new pope in some Catholic circles – quote: “The exposure to an unknown cardinal from a somewhat unknown country who became pope has removed an accustomed assuredness. The approval of this pontificate by the wrong people like the media that were furiously attacking Benedict XVI up to yesterday and by clergymen and Church-tax funded Church employees who up until now stood out for their opposition against the Magisterium and the Catholic tradition has further contributed to that uneasiness.

I don't think that it is a good idea to bring back the worst of the past (like the ferulla of Paul VI).
