A one-ton granite statue of the liberal Jesuit Father Pedro Arrupe, the 28th superior general of the Society of Jesus, University of San Francisco in March is part of the university’s Pedro Arrupe Week celebration. The life-sized statue is based on a well-known photograph of Fr Arrupe kneeling in prayer. It was carved in China under the direction of Jesuit Father Tom Lucas, university professor of Art and Architecture. Arrupe died on 5 February 1991 in his 84th year.

No doubt that Fr Arrupe meant well, but it is a fact that he turned the Jesuits in an old men's club.

Fr. Arrupe was a liberation theologian, whose theology was condemned by the CDF when it was under Cardinal Ratzinger at that time. He may have submitted to Pope JPII in the end upon his (Fr. Arrupe's) retirement, but he never bent his knee to Catholic Tradition and orthodox social teaching. His view of the kingdom of heaven was solely immanentistic and terrestrial.

You people are always trying to stir up trouble. I don't like the Jesuits either. They have perhaps done more damage to the post conciliar Church than any other order. But, this statue is a likeness of how Fr. Arrupe lowered himself before the Holy Father himself, John Paul II as a posture of submission.

He looks a bit more Confusion than Buddhistic, but never the less, a real mantra maker of new-age gobbly-gook syncretic superficial religion.
