Thomas Williams, a famous American priest of the Legion of Christ religious order has decided to leave the priesthood after having admitted last year that he had fathered a child years ago. Williams was a moral theologian, author, lecturer and television personality. Saturday he asked Pope Francis to be relieved of his celibacy and other priestly obligations. A friend, the Rev. John Connor, wrote in a Legion blog that Williams wanted to care for his son and the mother. After Williams' admission, the Legion's then-superior acknowledged he had known for years about the child, yet allowed Williams to continue teaching and preaching morality.

Saturday The Tablet published Hans Kung’s article ‘Don’t let spring turn to winter’. After praising the popular demonstrations of Pope Francis’ evangelical simplicity, Kung goes on to issue his threat to the new Holy Father. He writes: ‘We should face a lack of impulse towards reform from the hierarchy. If Pope Francis tackles reforms, he will find he has the wide approval of people far beyond the Catholic Church.” Protect the Pope comment: In Hans Kung and Tablet speak ‘reform’ is the code word for the secularization of the Church, which includes abandoning the moral doctrines of the Church on divorce, contraception, abortion, homosexuality, and euthanasia.”

Lots of bad news today, but they need to be faced. How long will the Vatican pronounce nice words that please the world and the liberals instead of starting a true renewal of the Church that is dying away day by day.
