The Pope with his hand luggage: Pope Francis spent all day Monday flying to Brazil. The Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta came to the airport to send him off. When boarding the Airbus, the Holy Father carried his own black briefcase on board. The Alitalia plane took off shortly before 9 am. The flight time between Rome and Rio is about twelve hours with his arrival in Rio at 4 pm local time. Tuesday is a day of rest before the Holy Father will officially begin his travel program with a visit to Aparecida on Wednesday.

Entering the road of self-destruction: Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia regards the recognition of same-sex – quotatons marks - marriages in Western countries as an omen of the end. After a Sunday church service in the Red Square, he said: "This is a very dangerous apocalyptical sign and we must do our utmost for sin never to be approved by state laws throughout the expanses of Holy Russia because it would mean that the nation is entering the road of self-destruction". By now 13 countries (Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden), and several sub-national jurisdictions (parts of Mexico and the United States), have allowed same-sex couples to – quotation marks - marry.

No compassion: Father Thomas Iwanowski has to leave St. Joseph Church in Oradell, Newark archdiocese, on July 31. What was his crime? He accepted 66-year-old Father Robert Chabak in his rectory who was removed from active ministry in 2004 because he allegedly molested a teenage boy in the 1970s. Chabak’s home was damaged by Superstorm Sandy, so archdiocese officials allowed him to live at St. Joseph "out of a sense of compassion." Father Iwanowski told a newspaper that he didn't see any harm in Chabak's staying at his church – quote: "He lived in the rectory and went to Mass every day. He didn't do anything else."

3. " Francis is a social justice pope." ..... Liberals love to hear that!
