Deacon Richard J. Caruso.

Rick is a 52-year-old native of Pittsburgh. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from St. Vincent College in 1982 and a master’s degree in information science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988. He is employed as a quality engineer for Westinghouse. Rick and his wife, Carol, have been married 25 years; they have two daughters: Anne, 22, and Regina, 18. Rick said he was inspired by a number of people in his life to pursue the diaconate. “My father, Pat, exemplified during his life what it means to serve in a selfless and loving way,” he said. “Additionally, I have been inspired by countless priests, religious, and lay people, who, in their day-to-day activities, dedicated themselves to serve God with their unique gifts and talents. My own personal calling, coupled with the example of these people as icons of service, have helped form me and move me toward this special vocation in the Church.”
