The pope said the church should not “interfere spiritually” with the lives of gays and lesbians.
“Religion has the right to express its opinion in the service of the people, but God in creation has set us free: it is not possible to interfere spiritually in the life of a person,” he said.
During the mid-flight interview mentioned by Pope Francis, he specifically referenced clergy members with histories of homosexuality. He said at the time who is he to judge them.

It is so important that every single news venue has now printed the corrected sentence.
You have NO idea what you are talking about. How would you know that every single news venue has now printed the corrected sentence? Have you researched every single news venue? I don't think so since you've missed CNN.

The point is that the Pope's statement is absurd on its face and, in his typical fashion, he offers no explanation to clear the ambiguity and he does it throughout the interview.

If the church were NOT to "interfere spiritually" with gays, lesbians, murderers, arsonists, extortioners etc. etc. etc, then why in the hell have a Church in the first place?

Is the Church of Pope Francis a social welfare organization to serve the poor and their material needs without offering spiritual direction, without admonishing sinners, without addressing the horror of our time, abortion?

Reading Francis' interview, one would have to think so.

Here's what "our separated brothers and sisters" are saying about the pope's comments:

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU POPE?"

I find it very interesting that you would choose this exact sentence from the interview because I believe it has been edited.
Yours is a distincition without a difference. Your revision means exactly the same as what is printed.
