An old friend: After his Wednesday audience while driving through the crowds, Pope Francis recognized Father Fabian, a Buenos Aires parish priest who was standing among the people. He called out to the priest and asked him if he was alone. When Fr. Fabian responded that he was indeed alone, the Pope invited him to join him in the Papamobile. Before the priest approached the car, Francis said to his security guards: “These pictures will go around the world.”

An even older friend: During the same trip through the crowd, Pope Francis also recognized 96-year-old Monsignor Alessandro De Sanctis who is from Filettino located 70 km east of Rome. When the Pope found out about the age of the priest he joked: “96 years? And where have you hidden them?” Monsignor De Sanctis is still serving as a parish-priest.

Liturgical Institute: San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has introduced the new Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Divine Worship at St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park and its director, Benedictine Father Samuel Weber. The goal of the institute is to – quote - “reclaim the sense of the sacred”. Their mission is to form lay ministers such as lectors, music directors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and those who bring Communion to the sick. The institute offers courses at parishes and online.

Dismissed: John Dear, a left leaning U.S. Jesuit priest, has been dismissed from the order because he was – quote - "obstinately disobedient" and refused to live in a Jesuit community in Baltimore. Dear is known for some 75 arrests for civil disobedience. He is a longtime National Catholic Reporter columnist and wrote about his dismissal in his weekly column posted on Tuesday. Dear says he decided to return to his previous parish assignment in New Mexico because his provincial did not arrange an appropriate assignment for him in the Baltimore area. Dear is unsure whether he will remain a priest after his dismissal from the Jesuits.

"extraordinary ministers" ?? The Only 'ministers' are the consecrated hands of a priest! These so-called "Eucharistic ministers" are nothing but 'Lay distributors' of communion...who should have Nothing to do with touching the sacred species!

Then he takes the wheel and starts tearing down the streets, too thrilled to realize that he is speeding. A policeman spots him, chases him down and forces him to pull over. Then the policeman gets out of his car, walks over and asks the speeder for his license and registration. But when the cop looks at the driver, he turns pale, hurries back to his car, and radios in. "I don't think I should issue a ticket," he says, "the person in the car is very important." "Who is he?" asks dispatch. "I don't know," responds the cop, "but the pope is his chauffeur!"
