Ecumenism Gone Wild

Photo ~ During a special ecumenical worship service in Sudbury, Cardinal Sean O'Malley asked the Rev. Anne Robertson of Plymouth to administer a baptism reaffirmation ritual to him. (George Martell/Pilot New Media)

“It was completely unexpected,” the Rev. Robertson said Tuesday, in her first media interview about the encounter. “I’m still blown away by it.”

“What moved me was not so much that I was anointing him,” she said. “It was him being willing to accept that from my hand – to ask me, as a woman in ministry, to do that.”

A Rhode Island native, the Rev. Robertson was the only female clergy member who assisted at a special 50th anniversary worship service at Sudbury United Methodist Church. Cardinal O’Malley delivered the homily at the ecumenical gathering.

“My heart immediately went to my throat,” she said. “To be asked that by the man who might be pope someday – I was stunned. I was choking back tears for hours.”

Pope Francis' close friend Cardinal O'Malley was not asked as to how this public display might be perceived by heretical groups such as Catholic Women Priests.

The thing here that is being undermine first it is not faith bit hope, hope silently is been killed in order when Francis pushes hard in October this year and finally opens the door to all faiths next year 2015, then because hope in Jesus is been replaced with hoping in humanity
, then many will be in line for losimg their souls, if for the look of the cross you decide to quit then eternal doom shall ne knocking at the ones door. We need to trust the Lord and seek to please Him, not the world.

@yuca2111: I am going to write as a sociologist (using Peter Berger's sociology that he used to understand the decline of religion). I am NOT advocating anything. @yuca2111: I am going to write as a sociologist (using Peter Berger's sociology that he used to understand the decline of religion). I am NOT advocating anything. I do wish to look at Sheepette's reaction as an "event" to be understood. I do take her dilemma to be one that will repeat itself until Pp Benedict's thesis becomes true that the "true" Church will shrink to a sect in modern society (maybe even a sort of sect within the modernistic Church). My discussion will be simple, because exceedingly simplified.

People associate with one another according to certain ways. These ways are what is called "society". Any society (total or subparts) is held together by enough shared "beliefs" that are congruent, i.e., support each other. Some beliefs are abstract theories (Newton's physics) or are superstitiious (Newton's speculations on alchemy). Most of "beliefs" are real for participants (e.g., forms of politeness) because they are accepted as "self-evident". At one time I learned from a military father that it is "impolite" to shake the hand of a woman. Decades later, while at a uni., this "belief" entered a tension, sometimes difficult for me (I do wish to be polite). Why? Feminists were beginning to demand equal treatment for women, i.e., hand-shaking with men. I hovered back and forth, eventually giving into the social pressure. I shake a woman's hand today. To follow my father's politeness at the uni. was called "macho-ism".

My example is trivial, of course. But it is illustrating. It has happened that field anthropologists who live with primitives find themselves in a different world (e.g., magic) and that, after some time, they find themselves "pressured" by the belief-environment of primitives to point that, well, they start "beliving" too. At that point it is time for the anthropologist to remove himself back to "normal" society.

The theoretical point: We accept many beliefs as "true" within a social context of "plausiblity". With out such a context, it is very difficult to maintain a belief, about hand-shaking or the Catholic Church of tradition. The traditional plausibility of Catholicism is punctured over and over. Opposition to the a new and augmenting plausiblity trend can be very difficult. I think that this is Sheepette's problematic. You gave Sheepette the only advice possible, namely "hold on" to beliefs and pray. It is to be hoped that she follows your advice. But, it will not remove her from the seeming endless events, statements, off-the-cuff-remarks, the downplaying of abortion, the hob-nobbing with Obama, vile repression of Latin liturgy, etc., etc. that weaken or dissolve the plausiblity context of traditional Catholicism. Everywhere I seem to look (and I offer Gloria.tv as a witness) I experience events and statements that weaken the plausiblity the traditional Church doctrine and ways.

I repeat: What I have written is not advocacy. Your response was the only one possible. No, I have sought to outline a "plausibility" crisis that began with Vat II and the following realization. The repression of the Latin Mass was key as that Mass represented the expression of traditional Catholic "plausiblity". I hold that the opposition to the use of Latin liturgy (especially by the Pope) is a function of the fear of the modernizers that Latin is so powerful that it weakens the influence of the modernist plausibility structure now being pushed. There is a cultural war going on in the Catholic Church!!

Baptism reaffirmation ritual indeed! What garbage! Toy town theology by cowboys!
St John the Baptist intercede at the throne of heaven for the Church. Amen.

The mystery of Mercy is GREAT! the church is handled in Rome as Romans were the ones who put the nails in... all that is repeating as our clergy wants so hard to become pharisees and roman soldiers... only a few faithful will remain to see that before it gets better it'll get worse... I mean Jesus pretended, communion to the hardheaded wicked, the good being persecuted by our own, civil unions acknowledge by the pope by giving baptism... IT'll get WORSE... hold on to the faith and seek the apostolic tradition, NOW.

Through prayer for the sinners of the world, pray for the wolves of the world and all who are trying to come out of Lukewarm mode and for those who are taking the majority of the blows, the few that are seeking sanctity only through the pain of their crucifixion... I'll pray for you my sister for you to seek Mercy through His hands and stay in the remnant catholic church. Peace 😇

I'm leaving the Catholic Church. The local Presbyterians give free lunches, the Catholics just want money.
