Be nicer: Yesterday, Pope Francis ordained 13 new priests. In his homily he asked all the priests to be nicer to their faithful: “It pains me when I come across people who no longer go to confession because they get harangued, badly treated, told off.” Gloria.tv believes that the pope is stuck in the good ole times before the Council. Since today priests in many countries are forbidden by their own faithful even to mention confession, Francis should have told the faithful to be nicer to their priests.

Italian Blessing: The ecclesiastical city of Armagh, Northern Irland, has hosted the start of the final Irish stage of this year’s Giro d’Italia. It is the first time that the Giro left mainland Europe. The event turned the region into the traditional colour of the Giro which is pink. Cardinal Sean Brady gave an Italian blessing to the riders ahead of the start. He was one of the few not clad in pink but, pointing to his red belt, he stressed: “This was the nearest I had to pink.”

Hate Crimes: Latin Patriarch Fuad Twal of Jerusalem said Sunday that Israeli hate crimes against local Muslims and Christians are souring relations ahead of a papal visit. Quote: “It is also a blight on the democracy that Israel ascribes to itself.” And: “The bishops are very concerned about the lack of security and lack of responsiveness from the political sector.” Despite the spiraling number of so-called “price tag” hate crimes by Jewish extremists there have been no successful prosecutions for such crimes.

Confusion: 70 years old former Filipino Government employee Alice Knapp graduated from the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas in Manila. But in 1981 she laps from the faith and became a so-called Born Again Christian. Four years ago she lapsed again and became a so-called Messianic Christian. Now she observes Jewish festivals and eats Kosher food. Relaxing Church discipline has led more Catholics in the Philippines to abandon the Faith.
