Questioned Sanctity: The big Italian newsmagazine L’Espresso has attacked Pope John Paul II with the headline “John Paul II, not a very saintly pope. How much silence about paedophilia.” L’Espresso is closely tied to the anti-Catholic journalist Eugenio Scalfari to whom Pope Francis gave one of his famous interviews. The magazine advertises the Italian edition of a Spanish book that uncovers that John Paul II had for years detailed knowledge about the accusations against the unfortunate founder of the Legionaries of Christ but preferred to do nothing.

New Order: 51-year-old Mother Mary Catherine [Duemling], left, is the founder and mother superior of the newly formed Missionaries. Their focus is to bring the Gospel to young people. Green Bay Diocese Bishop David Ricken established the group on May 1. Mother Mary Catherine is living with two novices, Sister Maria Lucia Stella Maris [Gadamus], 23, and Sister Marie Bernadette of the Sacred Heart [Schueller], 22, at St. Joseph Formation Center at Kangaroo Lake in Door County. Another young woman, Erin Schuessler, has joined the Missionaries of the Word as a postulant.

Social Desirability Bias: American Catholics and Mainline Protestants exaggerate how often they go to Church in answers to surveys, a Public Religion Research Institute study finds. Religious service attendance is considered positive behaviour. This produces a “social desirability bias” which is more present in live interviews then when answering questions for an anonymous Internet survey. Comparing the results of phone surveys to those of Internet surveys the Institute found a five percentage point difference for frequent church attendance. Among infrequent church goers, the difference was even 13 percentage points.

No Catholic Families: This month, five Catholic elementary schools in St Louis will shut down for good. There were 30 Catholic elementary schools in St. Louis in 1990. Next fall, that number will be 15. Of the 15 Catholic schools that have shut down since 1990, nearly a third are now public charter schools.
Temperance
They should not have canonized John the 23rd. To except Vatican 2 as one of the miracles is just stupid! The Vatican is desperately trying to white-wash the scandals that came from V2!
