Tragedy: Two Pensacola brothers, David and Greg Florian, 26 and 21 respectively, drowned in the Blackwater River on Tuesday. They were swept up in a fast-moving current while walking on a sandbar near Deaton Bridge in Milton, Florida. The brothers were members of a devout Catholic family of 12. One of their sisters is a Little Sister of the Poor named Sr. Mary of the Passion. Greg recently was engaged and pursued a communications major.
Careerism: Recently Pope Francis has elevated Fr Fabio Fabene, the under-secretary of the Synod of Bishops to the rank of a bishop. This surprised many. Until now it was not usual that undersecretaries become bishops. At the same time Fr Ilson de Jesus Montanari, a simple collaborator in the Roman Curia, was appointed secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and elevated to the rang of an archbishop. According to the vaticanist Marco Tosatti both Fabene and Montanari belong to the group around Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri. One of Baldisseri’s guys, Fr. Fabiàn Pedacchio, became the private secretary of the Pope. Since then the members of the Baldisseri club start becoming bishops.
Interesting Detail: For her diploma the Swiss high-school student Franziska Vogel has written a paper against celibacy. She received for it, as would be expected, a special award. Her paper concluded that most priests thing that for their task it does make a difference whether they are married or not. Interesting detail: Vogel is the daughter of Hansjörg Vogel, the former ultra liberal bishop of the big Swiss diocese of Basel who left the episcopacy after publically statying that he had impregnated a woman. Vogel later got married. Already before being named a bishop he was known to have the affair.
Bishops Promote Abortion: The official jouth organisation of the German bishops „Katholische Junge Gemeinde“ has published a brochure that is campagning for homosexualism and abortion. It claims a – quote - right to commit homosexual acts and a right to a free choice of sexual partners and sexual practices. As an example, the brochure mentions polygamy. Furthermore it claims a right to make an abortion and to receive free contraceptives. It is unlikely that the German bishops who themselves promote abortion in their Catholic hospitals will react on the brochure.
