The fear of war returns to Lebanon.

The Shiite Hezbollah group, the Party of God, struck again in Lebanon launching violent attacks in protest of the government and parliament majority.

In isolated areas of Mount Lebanon there was fighting this Sunday afternoon, however calm returned to the capital and to Tripoli after days of cruel battles that caused at least 36 deaths.

The four days of street gun battles between the militias of the different Lebanese factions reminded citizens of Lebanon's devastating 1975-90 civil war.

The two decisions of the government – that Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, considered a declaration of war – have now been revoked: One was the decision to remove Hezbollah's telecommunications network and the other was the removal of an officer from his security position at Beirut International Airport.

On Sunday, Benedict XVI urged all Lebanese "to abandon every argument for aggressive opposition that would cause their country irreparable damage."
