I saw many conversations about this case. All SSPX supportres talked about "a group not being SSPX" but nobody could explain who these misterious "friends" were exactly.
Futheremore as you said they talked about the previous msgr Perl letter from 2003.
"stating their Mass{SSPX} DID fulfill one`s Sunday Obligation".
I think this statement is NOT true!
Read this please.

I think Father Z had this letter up on his site, shortly after it was made public. I followed the conversation for awhile on his blog. I remember that the case was made about this group not being SSPX. Attention was drawn to a previous letter released by same; stating their Mass{SSPX} DID fulfill one`s Sunday Obligation.

Again I do not attend their Mass, and my family has been blessed with the TLM in diocese parishes, for the past 20 years. Deo Gratias

I am not trying to argue in favor of the SSPX but desire to bring to light, previous arguments concerning this letter.

rhemes1582,
what do you think are these FRIENDS OF THE SOCIETY OF THE St Pius X?
I could find this: "that is simply the name of the corporation that owns the chapel, but it is an SSPX venue served by SSPX priests" (New Catholic)
And this is the chapel mentioned in the PCED letter:
SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC CHAPEL

I remember this letter.
I believe the argument made at the time was that: {FRIENDS OF THE SOCIETY OF THE St Pius X chapel} are not part of the SSPX . There go the letter is misleading, and does not refer to the Mass offered in SSPX Churches, Chapels.
I do not attend their Masses, but we should be clear here.More
