The consequences of migration to Europe for the Church.

To analyze the manifold causes and the consequences of the migration movement on the Church's work is the aim of the VIII European Congress on Migration of the Council of the Bishops' Conferences of Europe (CCEE), which is scheduled to take place in Malaga, Spain, from April 27th to May 1st.

Approximately one hundred delegates from the Bishops' Conferences of Europe, representing bishops, national directors for the pastoral care of migrants, pastoral workers, representatives of the civil society and the political world will reflect on the theme "The Europe of people in movement: Overcoming fears, outlining prospects."

Father Duarte da Cunha: "The aim of the congress on migration that the CCEE is organizing is to view migrants and the movement of people in Europe not only as a problem and as something that causes fear, but also and above all as a resource, an aid, something positive that can bring great hope to Europe."

Participants will focus on the challenges that the phenomenon of migration presents to the family, parishes and society.

Father Duarte da Cunha: "We will examine how integration takes place in the family environment (and all the challenges that go with that), in the communities where people come to live, and moreover, in society at large. Therefore, from the smallest to the biggest social environments, we will examine how people can be helped, and how the Church has a great responsibility in the integration process and in helping these people to integrate."

It will be an opportunity to overcome the fears of a Europe that is more and more attentive to the migration phenomenon.
