A Daily Tiananmen Massacre

China

44 years old Mrs Chai Ling, the only woman leader of the1989 Tiannamen Square protests, was baptized on April 4 in a Protestant ceremony. Vatican

In Yesterday's general audience in St. Peter's Square, the Pope focused his remarks on the priest's mission to sanctify humankind. Remembering The Priests Who Died During World War II

Poland

Five thousand Polish priests and seminarians, led by Cardinal Claudio Hummes and Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow, gathered at the Shrine of Jasna Góra in Czestochowa on April 30 and May 1. They recalled the heroic example of the 3,000 Polish priests who were slain during World War II. A book containing the names of the priests was presented to Our Lady of Czestochowa. Following a procession with the relics of St. John Vianney, the prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy urged the priests to recommit themselves to evangelization. “You must go to families, to work places, to schools, to university environments, you must seek out those who have no faith,” said Cardinal Hummes at the concluding Mass.

The survey of 1,079 adults was conducted between April 28 and May 2.
