Saving the Soul of Catholic Family Life -- Homeschool Conference by Dylan McDonald.
It’s no secret that the traditional family is under attack today. In the present war against the family Catholic parents are asking, “How can we live as a Catholic family in our time?” St. Paul gives us the answer: “Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil by good.” (Rom. 12:21) And the parents of St. Thérèse, Blessed Zélie and Louis Martin, show us how to do it. By creating a home environment where God came first in everything, the parents of St. Thérèse developed in her the supernatural attitude that formed the “greatest saint of modern times.” This supernatural attitude, the fruit of union with the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, is the soul of Catholic family life. In the struggles to save the soul of our own family life, we are not alone. As Our Lord Himself has told us: “In the world you shall have distress: but have confidence, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Dear Mr. McDonald: Thank you for this conference and for your remarks about BlessedZélie and Louis Martin, the parents of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the “Little Flower." This is to let you know that their letters have been published in English as A Call to a Deeper Love: The Family Correspondence of the Parents of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, 1863-1885. 218 letters from Zélie and 16 letters from Louis invite you into the intimacy of the Martin family in the years before St. Thérèse’s Story of a Soul. For documents, photos, and videos aboutthe Martin family and to order the book, please visitwww.thereseoflisieux.orgAs you know, Celine and Therese were both homeschooled, and that is not the only reason these letters will speak powerfully to families engaged in Catholic homeschooling.
