Local broadcast: children's fantasy book features little girl.
A local Vancouver bookseller gets some free air time from local broadcaster Global TV in Vancouver, to pitch a children's book she stocks about a girl who goes to work for a witch.
Anything wrong with a broadcaster choosing who they put on the air? Of course not. Anything wrong with selling books? No.
Is there any problem with presenting a witch as a kindly employer for a little girl?

Lynn Colliar the host reacts to the revelation of the plucky little girl's lie.
"It has a whole magical world to it."
Well that's probably fine for a fantasy story of course. But how does it resolve the hero, a little girl, not asking permission from her mother to work for a witch?
Has anyone read this book yet?

+Abp Miller Explains ACL Vancouver.
Vancouver's new ACL - Association of Catholic Leaders is a meeting association for Vancouver business leaders. Presently Requiring only breakfast registration, these mornings before work in the heart of Vancouver's business district offer unique fellowship with Catholics in the business world, through a familiar format, to help attendees with the challenges of integrating Catholic faith with working life.
Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, is featured extensively in this profile of the Association, with his vision for engaging Catholics within the business world in Vancouver.

On the morning of Tuesday July 10th, 2012, a bicyclist viciously attacked participants of the Show the Truth tour in Toronto. This woman broke three signs and physically assaulted various members of the tour, including the cameraman. Although the woman rode away without revealing her name, Campaign Life Coalition, in conjunction with the Show the Truth tour, was able to catch these attacks on camera.

A Facebook Page has been set up to collect commitments from people to attend a proposed screening of the film "For Greater Glory" in Vancouver, BC. The distributor requires a commitment of 600 attendees to screen it, and there are only 300 who have committed to attend so far.
What has made Vancouver Catholics apparently decide "no" in advance, and with such extreme prejudice against this film? Do we trust the judgment of the lockstep consensus media so much about the infancy of Catholic filmmaking in the 21st century, we don't want to judge for ourselves? It's almost like we expect a film that dares to tackle a Catholic subject to be The Avengers or something. How many other big-budget Hollywood style films depicting an atheist government's attack on Catholic peasants do we think are being released this year? A lot of us spend more in a Starbucks visit than we would seeing this film and rewarding such audacious braveness in the filmmakers.
If you feel uncomfortable about seeing a film …

2011 Bl. JP II Beatification Celebration Mass - Vancouver.
WIth the rest of the world on May 1, 2011, Holy Rosary Cathedral in Vancouver was packed with worshippers for the celebration Mass in thanksgiving for the beatification of John Paul II.
I was asked to produce a profile of this event on very short notice, and I've actually felt kind of chagrined about the circumstances. Arriving an hour and a quarter before the start of the Mass, the Cathedral was already filled.
I was very sorry to have to ask a small family who had perched in the exact spot I had requested -- just in front of one of the Cathedral's massive pillars -- to move. Their devotion was so touching: dad, and three young children, all turned out in proper trousers, shirts, ties, and jackets and a lovely Sunday dress.
I wished I could have "worked around them" because they were so enthusiastic, waiting nicely -- standing -- more than an hour before the Mass had even begun. But part of how I work is that we never create a …More

2010 Triple Ordination Cathedral Mass in Vancouver.
Archdiocese of Vancouver, BC's rare triple-ordination Mass. Portions of it were aired nationally on Salt+Light Television in Canada a few days later. (May, 2010)
It was a day of great joy, especially given by the schola of Holy Family Parish (FSSP) in Vancouver, directed by Mark Donnelly (hear them also, recently, here:Traditional Latin Confirmation Highlights)
This video was produced for actuality, designed like a smorgasbord so the editor could "cherry pick" what the network wanted to air for broadcast. You'll see how that lays out.
I recorded it on a Saturday Morning in Vancouver and it was included in their broadcast the following Tuesday (could have been Monday, but they had other news priorities).
Because this video was only ever broadcast on one newscast and it has been on a private YouTube URL since, it has only ever had 7 views in all that time, (though portions were also broadcast nationally.)
So enjoy a sunny Saturday morning …More

"The YouTube Heresies" - Fr. Robert Barron.
*UPDATE* goo.gl/hnK6t has the whole 59 minute talk (this is just 1st segment). Also, see his article on same topic here: goo.gl/AOQkJ
*************************
Fr. Robert Barron (of "Catholicism" fame) recorded this talk at St. Mary's Parish as the keynote for a conference in Vancouver, BC in October of 2010. This talk was recorded by Pro Deo Communications of Vancouver for producer Nancy Ross of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries and used during the brief "Word on Fire with Father Robert Barron" TV series that aired on WGN Chicago/WGN America in November and December of 2010.
I feel this particular talk is especially relevant to Gloria.tv, because of Fr. Barron's topic in this talk, "The YouTube Heresies."
At the time this was his first delivery of this particular talk, and as all of Fr. Barron's work it is challenging, germane, informative, and even hip. Fr. Barron makes it cool to be Catholic.
Drawn from his years of responding to (mostly …More

Friends I seem to have discovered a very popular subject!
Needless to say, I am thrilled, as are my co-authors of this work.
Thank you!

We have never seen anything we have produced in over three years "go viral" on YouTube. It is a true thrill to see Fr. Barron hit it out of the park like this.
But I must take advantage of this little spotlight to intercede for a favor... (forgive me).
If you have not seen Fr. Barron's "Catholicism" series, I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY ENOUGH. If I try any harder than that, I will break my keyboard.
You will be standing and applauding in your living room before the first episode's opening credits are even finished. Even if you aren't Catholic you will be. George Weigel has called this series the most important production in the history of the Catholic Church in the US. Being Bl. JPII's biographer, I tend to give his opinions some weight. Cardinal Timothy Dolan has compared Fr. Barron's work to that of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, the only …More

May I also point out a video I produced for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada, as distinct from Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A. to the south). Producer Nancy Ross of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries in Chicago originally commissioned me through the Archdiocese to shoot Fr. Barron's talk, titled "The YouTube Heresies."

This link is to a YouTube playlist that will automatically play in sequence all five video segments of the 59 minute talk. I posted a link to it, but I don't think Gloria.tv knows how to handle YouTube playlists yet. Meanwhile you can watch the whole program with carefully placed delays of only a few seconds as each new segment buffers in.
The five video segments are actually hosted on the RCAVonline YouTube channel, because I produced it for Word On Fire Catholic Ministries (Nancy Ross, producer) and permission was given for RCAVonline YouTube channel to host my edit of the program.
