Switzerland: Opus Dei Bishop Attends Funeral of His Predecessor at PiusX

José Maria Bonnemain, the Spanish-born Opus Dei bishop of Chur, will be the only Swiss bishop to attend the funeral of his predecessor Vitus Huonder at the Pius X seminary in Ecône, Switzerland.
Bonnemain said on 16 April that he would not participate actively in the liturgy [because, as a Novus Ordo presider, he is not able to celebrate the Roman Rite]. He regretted that Huonder, who promoted Bonnemain, wanted to live and be buried in the Priestly Society of St Pius X.
He explained that his attitude was the same as at the tomb of any other person: "It is not for me to judge their life and work. Only God knows our motives and intentions".
Mgr Bonnemain sees no connection between the "irregular" canonical status of the Priestly Society of St Pius X and the "old wounds and tensions" in the Diocese of Chur. "It is high time that we put them behind us and take a step towards each other," he pretended, while in his diocese he is only looking after the anti-Catholic party.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed on April 13 that the Secretariat of State has sent a note to the French Embassy to the Holy See regarding the recent conviction of Cardinal Marc Ouellet in France.
According to the note, the Holy See learned from the press of the decision of the court of Lorient in a civil case concerning the dismissal of Sister Marie Ferréol (Sabine de la Valette) from the Dominican Sisters of Pontcallec who are about to change from the Roman Rite to the Novus Ordo.
Ouellet was ordered to pay Sister Marie more than 180.000€, but allegedly never received any writ of summons from the court.
He had conducted an apostolic visitation of the Sisters of Pontcallec in the name of Francis. At the end of this visitation, Sister Marie was dismissed from the community.
The Secretary of State's final point: “Any decision by the Tribunal of Lorient could not only raise relevant questions of immunity, but if it had ruled on internal discipline and membership in a religious …More

Cardinal Raymond Burke told "Fede & Cultura" (2 April, video below) that there is "corruption in the Church". He mentions worshipping Pachamama in St Peter's during the Amazon Synod, or monstrous "art" shows in churches.
Faced with such phenomena, Burke feels "frustration" and a "sense of bewilderment". For him, the solution is "to remain even more with Christ in the Church - to fight".
The Cardinal said that the Holy Mass [as opposed to the Novus Ordo Eucharist] has been an extraordinary blessing for the Church for fifteen and more centuries, but now its celebration becomes more and more difficult "because of the new legislation in this matter".
In visiting different parts of the world, Cardinal Burke has seen that Holy Mass continues to attract many people. The numbers of the faithful are getting bigger and bigger: "They are congregations of people of all ages, but what is very impressive is the number of young families with many children, and also young people who are not yet married …More

Cardinal Robert Sarah, one of the leading cardinals in terms of intelligence and integrity, praised the bishops of Cameroon for their "courageous and prophetic" 21 December statement against Francis' homosexual pseudo-blessings.
"You have done a work of pastoral charity by pointing out the truth," he said. The cardinal is currently visiting Cameroon, where he gave a programmatic speech on 9 April at the Episcopal Conference headquarters in Mvolyé, published on Diakonos.be.
It is "wrong and ridiculous" for "some people in the West" [including Francis] to claim that the Cameroonian bishops acted in the name of some "cultural particularism", Sarah clarified. They have claimed, "in a logic of intellectual neo-colonialism", that Africans are "not yet" ready to "bless" sin "for cultural reasons", he said: "As if the West had a head start over backward Africans."
In reality, the bishops in Africa are acting "in the name of the one Lord, the one faith of the Church", Sarah explained: "Since when …More

The diocesan administrator of the diocese of Dunkeld, Scotland, Canon Kevin Golden, announced at 1pm on Wednesday 10 April that Rev. Martin Chambers, 59, had died in his sleep.
Only on 2 February, Francis had appointed Chambers as the new Bishop of Dunkeld, Scotland. He was due to leave his parish on 10 April and be consecrated a bishop on 27 April.
Chambers was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Galloway. After his ordination, he served in many parishes, including as a missionary in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from 2004 to 2009.
From 2018 he also directed the diocesan Vocations Office and the diocesan Office for the Ongoing Formation of Permanent Deacons.
Mgr Chambers died in his last parish in Troon, Scotland, to which he was appointed in 2023. The second last Eucharist he presided at on 8 April, the funeral of William McMillan, is still available on the internet (below).

Six dioceses in the west of Ireland are to be led by three bishops. The seismic change was announced on 10 April, along with changes in the episcopate. Ireland is divided into 26 dioceses, essentially unchanged since the 12th century.
The six western dioceses will be left with three bishops. Archbishop Francis Duffy, 65, of Tuam takes over the diocese of Killala, while Bishop John Fleming, 76, of Killala retires.
Bishop Kevin Doran of Elphin is appointed Apostolic Administrator of Achonry. The present Bishop of Achonry, Mgr Paul Dempsey, 52, is deposed and demoted to Auxiliary Bishop in Dublin.
Already in May 2022, Bishop Michael Duignan, 53, of Clonfert, became also Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh.
The Irish nuncio, Archbishop Luis Mariano Montemayor, sugar-coats the massive decline in the formerly Catholic country by talking of "new challenges" and "pooling resources" to "increase vitality". A full merger will take place "if this process evolves still further".

“since writing the column, I have reviewed the website and listened to charges some have made against TradRecovery and the defenses of TradRecovery made by those involved with the “movement.” I have no intent to do a full critique of the “movement” here, but I have to say, the mish-mash of a website, the kind of evidence the organizers give regarding “traditionalism,” the lack of clarity of concepts, the idiosyncratic set of resources offered and the broad brush that they use to speak against widely disparate manifestations of “traditionalism” suggest that the movement may not be ready for prime time. This does not discredit worthy efforts to provide healing for those in need, but the organizers would have avoided a lot of negative feedback with a more refined approach.
As many have noted, even some of those involved in the conference, the choice of the term “traditionalism” is very unfortunate and is a source of a lot of the resistance to the project. Clearly the Church is wedded to …More
