MadonnaRenewalCenter- Freeport Illinois-
By Frank J. Munda- 7-7-2018 - The long awaited opening of the Madonna Renewal Center was celebrated on June 23, 2018. The opening of the center commenced with the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by Bishop David Malloy, Bishop of Rockford Illinois. The opening of the Madonna Renewal Center is truly a remarkable event because it will help empower women to become self-sufficient while they learn more about how to care for their coming child.
Many of the sisters from the order of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ ( IHM)came home to the mother house here in Freeport to help with this beautiful celebration. Prayers of thanksgiving and praise were offered to our Lord in gratitude for this opening. Many of the dedicated volunteers who helped bring this project to the completion of the first phase …More

Ten Commandments and Love of God.
A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Bible: Acts of the Apostles 10
Chapter 15 of the Acts of the Apostles begins with the first Church Council the Catholic Church has ever had. The Council of Jerusalem made a major pivotal decision on the issue of circumcision. Circumcision was established by God as mandatory for all Jewish men in order to partake of the covenant God offered to Abraham (Lv 12:3 &Gen 17:1-14). But in this process, the people are becoming more and more aware that they are not a sect of the Jewish faith. Peter challenges those present to put their faith in the promise of the grace of Jesus the Christ (Acts 15:7 & 11).
James deals with the issues of dietary laws from the Jewish faith. The conclusion again is to not enforce these laws on the gentiles who became Christian. They send a letter out to the people to make the clarification on what the Church teaches. This letter can be read from verse 23 through 29. In the letter, you can see an …More

The Absolute Authority of Jesus.
A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Bible: Acts of the Apostles 5
Chapter Ten of the Acts of the Apostles has something very different happening. A centurion is being called by God. Before then, He called mostly Jews. He was a man named Cornelius, a Roman centurion. A couple of times the Bible refers to him as being “God fearing”. This is a lay man’s title for those who are not Jewish, but honor the Jewish religion. They pray to god and even are known to give substantial contributions for the Temple or the Jewish community. Peter is called to go and evangelize him and his household. Peter is instructed to eat profaned meat (v12-14). Peter first refuses because of the type of meat that is set out in his vision. But God has him come to Cornelius’ house and eat.
What God tells him is significant. “What God has made clean, you are not to call profane” (v15). The death of Jesus did not just clean humanity from sin, but cleansed the whole world from the effects …

A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Just Jesus and Me is a Lie
Fr. Barr explains how Jesus came to die on the cross for us, but His ministry was to establish His Church for our good. As the Bible says in Genesis; “It is not good for man to be alone” (2:18). God established His Church to be a means of grace for each other. You are the Body of Christ. You are a means of grace to each other as well as the hierarchy and the sacraments.

The Light of Christ in Our Priests and Religious Sisters and Brothers.
A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Acts of the Apostles 3

Last week we looked at how the “Kerygma” (the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection) is the reason for conversion. This is how the Apostles, inspired by the Holy Spirit converted so many people to the faith. We do not need eloquence or some high and lofty programs. All we need is to know the love of God, that He loved us so much, He was willing to come down to us and sacrifice Himself for us.
In Chapter 6 of the Acts of the Apostles, we see our first leaders of the Church needing to select other leaders to help manage the Church that Jesus had established. So, they started the order of Deacons. St Stephen was one of the first to be ordained. He preached and would bring Communion to those who could not attend the Holy Mass (Acts 6:1-2, 6). This is the first instance of an ordination by “laying on of hands” in the Acts of the Apostles (v6). The structure of the …More

Christmas Day
A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Prayer for our Priests and Religious
We have so much to be grateful for; our family, friends and our parish. Jesus has been so generous to have given us many priests and religious to help us as we grew to become the people we are today. Now is our time to pray for them and for new men and women to join the ranks of such holy people to continue to be an inspiration to us and our families. We will begin a Novena for Holy Vocations on Friday, December 29, ending on January 7, the Feast Day of the Epiphany. On that day, we will begin to pray for Holy Vocations at the end of every Mass.

The Whole Point of Our Faith is Joy.
A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
Bible: Acts of the Apostles

The Acts of the Apostles is unique. The Gospel readings give an account of what Jesus did during his life and after the resurrection. The letters from Paul, Peter, Jude, and John are letters to the various communities. They give advice on how to live as Christians and they give some corrections for the people. The Acts of the Apostles give an account of what the apostles did after Jesus ascended into heaven. It may have advice and corrections, but the point of the book is to give an account of the actions the apostles took.
It becomes a window into which you can see how the early Christians lived, what they believed, and how they acted on that belief. You get to see the early Catholic Church and how the apostles lived out their authority. To catch what happened in the initial birth of the Church, they back up the truck to the ascension of Jesus into heaven. So, the ascension into heaven is …More

Then, by thy own gratiuitous love, assuming our human nature,
Thou didst save all on earth that was lost. Giving joy to this world. Come, O Christ, purify our souls and bodies, And make them thy own pure abode. Justify us by thy first coming. Fatima 100 Years Later.
A note from Fr. Charles Becker
My name is Fr. Charles Becker, a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago. I was ordained in 1986 and experienced a conversion to a deeper appreciation of the Catholic Faith in 1989-1990 through Medjugorje! My introduction to the Marian Movement of Priests began immediately following my first trips to Medjugorje due to my openness to the laity's influence and their experience of supernatural and mystical happenings. These prayer groups or “Cenacles” of the MMP restored my vocation to the priesthood through the rosary, the messages Our Lady gives to priests and all of us in Her Movement, and finally and most importantly my Consecration to Her Immaculate Heart in October 1990! The difference is phenomenal and I am so grateful!

A note from Pastor Timothy Barr:
The Bible and Our Catholic Understanding

Many people have questions about the Bible. Some are in depth and some are very basic. There are way too many questions about the Bible to deal with every question in bulletin articles. We hope to have more groups studying the Bible, but I will handle some of the basics. There are some resources also available. For more of the basics, I have ordered a small book called, Pocket Bible Guide, St Joseph Edition. If you want something more in depth, Scott Hahn offers his college courses for free on-line. The free course does not offer credits, but you do gain the knowledge. Otherwise, there are some books in the Daleiden room, in the basement of the St Joseph rectory, and the Lighthouse CDs are also available in the back of both churches. In presenting this information, I will assume that there is someone who has never even heard of the Bible, let alone seen one.
