Guilty: An internal investigation of the Legion of Christ has revealed that 85-year-old Father William Izquierdo has been found guilty of sexually abusing a minor. The abuse occurred between 1982 and 1994 while Izquierdo served as instructor of novices in Cheshire, Connecticut. He is now “in an advanced state of dementia.” A total of 9 Legionary priests have been found guilty of sexually abusing minors throughout the congregation’s history.

Ousting the Traditionalists: Father Fidenzio Volpi, the Apostolic Commissioner of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, has leveled strong accusations against the Friar’s founder, Father Stefano Maria Manelli in the Italian paper La Stampa. He claims that Manelli early in January 2012 refused a - quote - “constructive dialogue” with dissenting members of the order who complained about a – quote – “crypto-lefebvrist and certainly traditionalist driftage” in the community.

An assault on Religious Freedom: In the Delaware County Daily Times, Attorney Christine Flowers strongly criticized the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for dragging the U.S. bishops into court because they refuse to murder babies with abortions in their hospitals. Flowers stated that the ACLU lawsuit represents an unprecedented assault on religious freedom.

Parachute Payment: A Lutheran pastor in the Swedish Church has claimed a parachute payment amounting to $39,000 USD following his conversion to the Catholic Church. His Lutheran bishop Hans-Erik Nordin in Strängnäs called the payment “ethically problematic”. Quote: “If you have decided to convert then you have to take the consequences of that decision."
