About German products: I even had an Englishman once asked me on a train in México, to tell my husband that his company--(the one for which he works)--produced lousy power drills!!

O.K. Not everything is that lousy--but, sometimes, you need an ax to open things, or the opposite occurs--you need to be ready with an extra plastic bag, so that things don't spill

Not to worry dear, we got in Tickell to UN-DO what Klais did. However, the Klais organ in Coln Dom is just amazing!! Klais problem is overseas instrument restoration and construction....... They seem to be rather "Teutonic" in that they treat the world as if it were an extention of Germany!! Just imagine building an organ in the tropics as if it were Dresden Germany!!

ACL:Sorry about your church organ!

Thanks for the Info. on the best companies! (Yes, unfortunately, The German Old Masters have been replaced, sometimes, by

"duds": Cheaply made new--(though EXPENSIVE)-- houses, appliances that are pre-WWI--

try using their heavy vacuum cleaners--etc., etc.!!!

Ira dear, I have a few things to say here:

As an organist myself, I have had to deal with a few Organ Building companies since graduating. Klais is one of them. They did some restoration work on an English JW Walker organ and really destroyed it!! Therefore, I am affraid that my oppinion of Klais in restoration work is quite low.

On the other hand their work in building new instruments is seen in the 4 manual instrument in Birmingham concert hall. Fabulous instrument!! The best companies are:

1. Flenthrop (Holland)
2. Metzler (Germany)
3. Cavaille-coll (France)
4. Tickell (UK)
5. Harisson and Harisson (UK)
6. Cassavant-Freres (Canada)
