Indeed!! - This is the product of the de-spiritualisation of the Seminary formation of priests. Priests formed between 1970 and 2000 (and to some extent even today) were formed into 'Social Workers' not holy men of God!

If the reason d'etre of the priest's existence is an anthropocentric, philosophical concept which is the Christ, the priest's ministry will fail - as we have seen in many a Parish! On the other hand, if the priest's reason d'etre is a theological reality borne out of experience of the Christ, we see a rather fruitful Christocentric ministry..... There are many priests who easily fit into this, however, because of their humility, they would not confess of it.

Now, it is indeed possible to be too much of a theologian and not enough a physic animae or doctor of souls. Therefore if theology becomes the philosophical discipline (like the aforementioned 'concept of the Christ') rather than a lived-through reality, the result is the same: an antropocentric ministry which will fail.

Therefore, I believe that a healthy balance between scholarship and prayer (like that positied by Sts Benedict and Dominic) must be the rule. Sadly, we the people are subjected to the the extreems of this through the many Sunday homilies of priests who really ought never to speak in public!! 😁 Or enter into church architecture or spiritual leadership!

Let us pray therefore for the Seminarians today, that their formation would be a balanced one - both academically and prayerfully.

@holyrope3 - I couln't agree with you more. He is marvellous! A real mna, not afraid to speak out the truth. Vortex should be mandatory for every bishop, as a daily reminder of the real faith, in case they have happened to forget...

Mr. Voris is such a strong defender of the faith as well as his proclaiming it for the world to hear. Maybe we could try and add him with our other intentions when we pray the rosary, that he may be able to continue this important mission that he has. Another is Fr. Pavone and all those who dedicate their time and energy for the pro-life movement.
