Unforgettable along with those other Catholic gentlemen who became world heavyweight champions, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson and Gene Tunney.

Great story. It is a tragedy that Max Baer was so brutally mischaracterized. I remember an interview with Max Baer Jr. and he effectively said that to show Braddock as a great man, which was evident, they didn't have to lie and make my dad a monster.

That was definitely unfair to Max Baer. When he retired, he spent the rest of his life coaching younger boxers and giving fight lessons in gyms. While not the role model for young men like Braddock, Max was a bit of a playboy, married twice, ran a nightclub but was not the monster the movie portrayed him to be. He did remain on friendly terms with Braddock after both of them retired.

@philosopher I agree. I highly highly recommend for the entire family the 2005 movie "Cinderella Man" which stars Russell Crowe as Braddock and has Renée Zellweger and Paul Giamatti in the supporting cast. Marvelous uplifting and true Catholic film.

Braddock was not only a great athlete but also a good husband, father, and Catholic gentleman!
