Mike PenceHarry Knox Needs to Be Fired

USA

US-State Representative Mike Pence says that it is "long overdue" for President Obama to fire Harry Knox from the White House Advisory Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships because of the "vehement anti-Catholic statements" Knox has made, CNSnews reports. “I would hesitate to speculate on why someone who has made repeated and even recent statements of an intolerant nature toward Pope Benedict and the Catholic Church is continuing to serve on the president’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Partnerships,” said Pence.

Gay Provocation in Church

Netherlands

Dutch media say around a hundred activists have walked out of a church in the Netherlands to protest the Catholic policy of refusing communion to homosexuals. The activists left the Sint-Jan church in Den Bosch, 90 kilometers southeast of Amsterdam, yelling and singing. The church was prepared for the protest and had decided not to give Holy Communion during Sunday Mass. The conflict began during Dutch carnival celebrations last month. An openly gay man in a village near Den Bosch was chosen for a prominent role, but his local priest refused him communion.

No Veil?

United States

"Women & Spirit: Catholic Sisters in America” is a traveling exhibit sponsored by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious in association with the Cincinnati Museum Center – Thomas Peters reports on his blog. According to the official website the exhibit reveals “the mystery behind a small group of innovative American women who helped shape the nation’s social and cultural landscape”. Peters comments: “The actual content might be okay, but I’m skeptical considering every single one of the nuns involved couldn’t be troubled to wear their habit for the official photo (I mean, not even a veil?).”

Pay Telephone Line for Confession

France

A French pay telephone line to confess sins has drawn criticism from bishops. "For advice on confessing, press one. To confess, press two. To listen to some confessions, press three," says a soothing male voice, welcoming the caller to "Le Fil du Seigneur", or "The Line of the Lord" service. "In case of serious or mortal sins -- that is, sins that have cut you off from Christ our Lord, it is indispensable to confide in a priest," warns the 0.34 euros a minute service. The French Bishops warned in a statement that the line had "no approval from the Church. The site was set up at the beginning of Lent. It does not offer absolution, but instead the callers are offered an “atmosphere of piety and reflection,” said Camille, the creator of the of the site.

✍️ In Ireland when I was young "taking the veil" was how it was described when a woman decided to become a nun. Who now would understand the expression? - Blessings and thanks for the news you bring us, it's well appreciated. - Rene
