Father Aloysius Considered For Sainthood

Fr. Aloysius Ellacuria, CMF was the well known Claretian missionary from the Basque provinces of Spain. He had a reputation for holiness among the clergy and laity in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He was known as a miracle worker throughout Southern California, Arizona, and Texas.

His assignments within the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary included seminary formation, novice master, rector, pastor of parishes, chaplain, and other specialized ministries.

In the early 1940's while rector of St. Jude's Seminary in Momence, Illinois, Fr. Aloysius served as the spiritual director and confessor of the nuns at Our Lady Academy in Manteno, Illinois. Recently a book has been published about his spiritual direction of Sister Mary Mediatrix, considered an authentic mystic.

Throughout his 50 years of priestly ministry be was a most ardent promoter of the message of Our Lady of Fatima. He is the founder of the Missionaries of Perpetual Adoration, a religious order of men.

During the 1950's, and through the 1970's, he was visited by the humble and famous alike. In many cases people reported miraculous cures. Father Aloysius always attributed the many graces which Our Lord worked though him, to the goodness of the Almighty God. Among his many "gifts", Father had the charism of reading souls, expelling demons, and the gift of prophesy.

In a recent article in the Pasadena Star News Father Aloysius is described for his "unique presence", as he reflected peace and goodness. He was always grateful to God for many graces which God granted in request to his prayers on behalf of others.

"Gratitude to God" was, for Father Aloysius, most important. He attributed the special charisms to "God's Divine Mercy" for the salvation of sinners. (National Catholic Register)
