Yesterday morning, Pope Benedict XVI held a special meeting with the leaders of the Roman Curia. The Vatican did not disclose the purpose of the gathering. Pope Benedict has only rarely called together all the heads of Vatican offices, for instance, when he wanted to discuss a major policy issue. The last such meeting of Roman Cardinals took place last November. The content of the discussion was the creation of the Pontifical Council for New Evangelization. The formal announcement of that office came soon after the meeting.

On May 4, Pope Benedict XVI named Father José Aparecido Hergesse to be an auxiliary bishop of the Vitoria archdiocese in Brazil. But less than two weeks later the bishop-elect’s mother suffered a severe stroke. The mother, a widow, now requires constant care. After consulting with the apostolic nuncio, Father Hergesse announced that he would decline the Episcopal appointment. His ordination, scheduled for September, has been cancelled.

This Archbishop emeritus Carmelo Juan Giaquinta of the Argentinean diocese of Resistencia said in a recent homily. The archbishop went on: “Sixty-five years ago, the archbishop of Paris surprised the Church with his pastoral letter ‘France: Mission Country?’ As the years have gone by, that question has become an affirmation. And it is valid not only for France. All of the West is mission territory today”. The archbishop added: “The first Gospel is the nature with which God created us. When that is denied, the whole Gospel of Jesus is denied.

In the novena Rotzetter prays to the Holy Spirit in this way: “Open me towards Your Blowing in the silent presence of Buddha, in the agile dance of the Dervish, in the awesome kneeling of the Muslims, in the pious prayer of the Jews.” After being object of criticism, “Renovabis” defended the novena, by explaining that in every religion there is a shadow of truth. Critics suggest that this shadow can though not simply be identified with the Holy Spirit.

I think that we are living at the onset of a second Mediaeval Age, when both empires of the West are falling and the Church needs to, yet again, keep the banner of Truth flying high and in tact, and the torch of excellent learning and culture burning brightly!

That depends on who you are.
If you are a non-Christian or a modernist then F. Rotzetter may be perfect for you especially if you are a New-Age, touchy-feely, kumbaya type who believes in Syncretism and that there is a mysterious fusion of all religions, including pagans, and that all are part of one great “Truth.”

Do you think St. Paul would have been blowing the Buddha, dancing with the Dervish, join in prayers with the Jews or praise the heretical Muslims' kneeling to their false god?
