President Obama Has Found Osama – and God?

This Fr John Zuhlsdorf writes on his famous blog and adds: “President Obama seems now to be ready to quote a standard of American patriotism, the Pledge of Allegiance, with its strong invocation of God, when for sometime he couldn’t bring himself to quote the Declaration of Independence correctly with its reference to a Creator who gives us our rights. Color me cynical.”

Beatification is Not a Prize for Good Management

In an interview Archbishop Vincent Nichols of England and Wales has commented the critique which accompanied the early beatification of Pope John Paul II. He said: “I think beatification is about a person’s holiness. It’s not a reward for being a good Pope. It’s not a prize for good management. It’s an acclamation that this person was close to God and in his life and work showed us some of the attributes of God, God’s creativeness and his abundant mercy and I think that is the only context to really reflect profoundly on the moment of beatification.”

Bishop of Toowoomba Dismissed

Yesterday, the Vatican has announced that Benedikt XVI. has removed Bishop William Morris of Toowoomba, Australia, from his pastoral office. In 2006 Morris had expressed in a pastoral letter his support for women’s ordination. As a consequence the Vatican ordered an Apostolic Visitation in Toowoomba, led by Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver. Last Sunday, Morris informed in a pastoral letter that he had never seen the Report prepared by the apostolic visitor: “Without due process it has been impossible to resolve these matters, denying me natural justice without any possibility of appropriate defense and advocacy on my behalf” – he declared.

Young Christian Woman Abused in Pakistan

Sehar Naz, a 24-year-old Christian woman works in the insurance industry in the northern Pakistani province of Punjab. Recently she was abducted and repeatedly raped by an army intelligence officer, according to the Fides news agency. The officer threatened to arrest her parents if she discussed the rapes and said “that it is easy to book Christians in any case,” according to the Fides news agency. Police have not arrested the officer, whom Naz has identified.
