It is good for muslims to be challenged in their beliefs - in their 1,400 year history this has never happened before at the scale it is now happening and that is thanks to the Web. Ex-musims that I know have been converted by Jesus Himself through dreams and visions and these ex-muslims put their life on the line for their new-found Faith - the penalty for apostasy from islam is death. There is so much that is pure unadulterated 7th century thinking in the Qur'an it just does not fit in with 21st century thinking - and must be challenged - that women are the property of men, that a man can have four wives, that those who suicide/murder for the sake of Allah will be rewarded with 72 virgins in the afterlife - they call these "martyrs" and I object to that - our martyrs never hurt anyone. Spencer went on to cite a number of Qur'anic injunctions to conquer, convert, or subjugate Jews and Christians--and noted that because these verses of the Qur'an were spoken by Muhammad later in his life, orthodox Muslims consider them more normative than his earlier calls for religious toleration. "Essentially, when Muhammad was weak and unpopular, he asked members of other faiths to live and let live. Once he controlled the city of Medina and led an army, he received new revelations that called for jihad and religious persecution. Islamic scholars believe that the later revelations abrogated (or overruled) the earlier ones. But when they are in a position of weakness--as they are today in America--Muslims like to cite the peaceful verses. Sad to say, they are merely being strategic. When they gain a position of power, they will always change their tune.

Seánie, my time on Gloria TV is all but gone, but let
me say this. This video & other videos featuring the
odious Robert Spencer will most certainly receive
whole hearted endorsement from various members
of this Catholic forum. I cannot begin to tackle the
half truths of this American author and polemicist.
Put plainly, a half truth equals a whole lie! Seánie,
I would dearly like to deconstruct the thoughts of
Mr Spencer - but alas he is only one of the many
propagandists that are doing the rounds, primarily
in the US media & websites. This man is a peddler
of poison, and I for one, will not imbibe the poison
of hatred towards Muslims, or any other group for
that matter. If I have hatred for anything, it will be
a hatred for my own personal sin! Mr Spencer is
not a “white washer” but a “blue washer” whose
role in life is to inculcate a love for Israel and a
hatred of Islam. As this is a Swiss based website,
I would like to invite an Islamic scholar such as
Swiss born Tariq Ramadan to dissect the words
of Mr Spencer, but I would not want him to waste
his time on this forum on what would ultimately
prove to be a fruitless exercise. Seánie, this site

The modus operandi of the Muslims have not changed since the conquests of Constantinople, all the way West to Spain: FEAR. The Roman Catholic Church has survived this, in that She was and still is the conservatrix par excellence of the heights of West Civilisation and culture. All through the Middle Ages Holy Mother Church fought these infidels with learning and faith (not to mention mobilising the temporal powers to quash their efforts!).

On the other hand the Muslims did offer to the west great advances in science, medicine and philosophy. Do not forget that they were the conservators of rather alot of the coveted ancient Library of Alexandria which almost completley burnt in 48BC (lit by Julius Caesar, according to one account) and was finished off not long after. The Muslims had alot of the manuscripts in translation. Therefore, they profited from the astronomy and excellent mathematics of the Ancient Greeks, while we in the West were still unable to draw a map! The spectacles we wear today, the telescopes and Calculus which is the basis of all Western Modern life, are all from the Muslim occupation of Spain. This was their gift to Europe through the Iberian Peninsula.

Therefore, I would suggest that the Muslims were not always as they are portrayed today; and so not all of the Muslims today are the murderers and extreemists we might think them to be. However, the problem of the extreemists in the West is dire indeed. But, shouldn't we be asking ourselves, what caused their rise in the West? I would suggest that where there is a vacuum, nature always tries to fill it: We in the west surrendered our ancient Christian Faith to consummerism. BUt the soul needs to express herself to her God. Christianity was 'booted' out of the mainstream of the West creating a spiritual vacuum; Islam seems to be capitalising on this void.

EUROPE, N.AMERICA!!!!! RISE UP!!! RECLAIM OUR HERITAGE!!! Resume the sacredness of the HOly Mass, the Sacraments and Mysticism of our Roman Catholic heritage!! Give to this generation the Beauty and transcendence of the one Trinue God made visible in Christ Jesus our Lord!
