There are many icons and paintings of Jesus that I personally like seeing
and praying before. My favourite depiction of Jesus is by the little known
German painter Georg Cornicelius. This painting goes by the title, “Christ
tempted by Satan / Christus wird vom Satan versucht”. Georg Cornicelius
was primarily a landscape artist, and this shows in his depiction of Jesus,
particularly in the depth of the eyes of Jesus. The eyes of Jesus look into
the very soul. Sadly, this extraordinary painting was destroyed by fire in
the Second World War. As you look at this masterpiece please reflect on
the wonderful words of Helen Lemmel, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look
full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
