Rules for the Discernment are specific guidelines included within the Spiritual Exercises and one I cling to especially helpful in our time is:
“In time of desolation never to make a change; but to be firm and constant in the resolutions and determination in which one was the day preceding such desolation, or in the determination in which he was in the preceding consolation. Because, as in consolation it is rather the good spirit who guides and counsels us, so in desolation it is the bad, with whose counsels we cannot take a course to decide rightly.”
In other words, cling to what brought graces before these difficult times. The difficult time may tempt us to let go of these.

Hi Lazarus,
Thanks for bringing up the Rules for the Discernment of St. Ignatius. Specifically the one that says, “In time of desolation never to make a change;..." which is very important.
I think, very often we spoil the good progress we've made during the difficult times.
St. Ignatius' writings have been very influential in my spiritual growth. The ideas that he touches upon in his books have transformed me and I hope they have the same positive effect for those listening.

Thanks Angelica I have made that mistake before hopefully won't again.
