Exploring Inner & Middle Temple
London has four inns of court, where historically lawyers worked, ate, slept and drank ...much like a hotel or inn (hence the name). They are Gray's Inn, Lincoln's Inn and Inner and Middle Temple.
The last two get their name as the land once belonged the 12th century Templar Knights. Their round chapel from this time is still here even though lawyers have inhabited the area since the 14th century. It's a wonderful area with amongst other things a 16th century Elizabethan Hall and is well worth having a mooch about. Perhaps not surprisingly it has formed the backdrop to many a film and TV drama including Shakespeare in Love, Bridget Jones, Operation Mincemeat, The Da Vinci Code and loads more.
